Mashpee Wampanoag Museum

The Wampanoag people have inhabited Southeastern Massachusetts and Rhode Island for thousands of years. Their ancestors greeted the Mayflower and later fought the English to keep their land and heritage intact. The museum is housed in one of the oldest buildings in Mashpee. Built in 1793 it was once home to the tribal historian Mabel (Nakoomis) Avant. The house appears on the National Register of Historic Places and showcases the long and complex history of the Wampanoag tribe.
