Chimney Point has a human history going back at least 9,000 years. Native Americans made their home here for millennia. French and British colonists both occupied the point for a time and it played a role in the French and Indian War as well as the American Revolution. A tavern built in 1784 still stands and has been converted to a museum interpreting all 9,000 years of history.
